A graduate in zoology at Duke University, Craig Gelband earned a PhD in pharmacology and physiology at the University of Miami. During his time in Florida, Craig Gelband became a fan of the National Football League’s (NFL) Miami Dolphins.
For the past five seasons, the Dolphins have been led by quarterback Ryan Tannehill, a Texas A&M alumnus whom the team drafted eighth overall in the 2012 NFL draft. As a rookie, Tannehill started all 16 of the Dolphins’ regular season games and threw just 12 touchdowns against 13 interceptions, but he has drastically improved his numbers since then. In his second year the Big Spring, Texas, native threw for 3,913 yards and recorded 24 touchdowns. The following year, he threw for a career-best 27 touchdowns.
In 2016 Tannehill had 19 touchdowns, but he started in just 13 games. Despite the drop in touchdown production, he recorded a career-high 67.1 pass completion percentage and had a win-loss record of 8-5. He also had a career-high 93.5 quarterback rating. The Dolphins boast an improved offense heading into the 2017 season, and there will be pressure on Tannehill to help the team reach the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
